Spring on hold

Woke up this morning to blizzards and a biting northerly wind. So much for spring. The birds are very confused!

Unfortunately our frogspawn has frozen and died.

Frogs and Hawthorn

Walked along the old railway line yesterday and saw 50+ frogs in a 10m section of the pond which is next to the old line. They were very active and there was quite a lot of frogspawn.

Hawthorn is coming into leaf along the hedgerows next to the fields.

Frog Spawn

Saw our first frog spawn in the smaller of the two garden ponds this morning. This is three weeks earlier than last year.

Blackbirds were singing strongly at 05.30 this morning.

Activity in bird boxes

A Great Tit is still regularly roosting in our 1" hole nest box each night and the robin has been spotted by a visitor to our webcams carrying vegetation into our open fronted next box.
