Smardale Gill

Yesterday I walked with a friend up Smardale Gill near Kirkby Stephen. There were numerous butterflies and hover flies, a pair of Ravens on the ridge above the valley and a Spotted Flycatcher sitting on a nest on a cliff face.  We even has a fleeting glimpse of a Red Squirrel.  All in all a very enjoyable day.
