Wingate and Castle Eden
Took an early morning walk along the old railway line path between Wingate and Castle Eden.
Lots of meadow brown butterflies flying in the pockets of sunshine between the bushes on the embankments. Also a sighting of what I thought was a humming bird hawk moth although I could not get close enough to be sure.
Birds seen or heard included chaffinch, wood pigeon, swallow, robin, wren, skylark, blackheaded gull, carrion crow, blackbird and yellow hammer.
There were orchids growing on the bankside and flag iris in the ponds at the side of the track.
